Career Ready 101 (CR101) can open the door to a better job or career.
Every step can be a passageway to new opportunities towards self-sufficiency.
- Orientation – This is a two-hour introduction to CR101 and is held every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and Thursday at 2:30 p.m.. It involves literacy assessment and a personal conference.
- Increasing Literacy – CR101 includes a user-friendly online tutoring process that can be accessed on any computer with internet capability for those wanting to increase literacy skills. Lab time is also available with teacher assistance.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) – Once a person has reached Level 5 in Reading for Information and Applied Math, they are ready to take the Work Keys assessment or NCRC. This is a free three hour assessment where participants are awarded a certificate that is honored by more than 300 employers. This opportunity is available here at SVdP or at other partner organizations in the area.
- Workforce Training Academy (WTA) – Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) offers up to 17 vocational training programs that are free to qualified applicants. Each one of these programs can lead to jobs in the Des Moines metro area. Programs include Certified Nurse Aid, Welding, Commercial Driver’s License, and Administrative Support, among others.
