St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Elizabeth Seton Conference Carlisle, hosts a “Friends of the Poor Walk”. All are welcome. This 7th annual event has a beautiful new location. Come and walk the new Scotch Ridge Nature Trail in Carlisle. Be with us even if you just pledge! Volunteer & Advertising opportunities are available.
When: Saturday Sept. 30, 2017
Time: 9:00 am registration opens. Walk begins at 9:30 am.- Ends at 11:00 am.
What: Live music, door prizes, food & beverages provided! You might bring a portable chair (some provided)
Where: Scotch Ridge Nature Park. Meet at South end of Carlisle Middle School. Our 2 mile fun walk/run has 2 trail choices. East has a tunnel. West through Nature Park has beautiful trees, ponds, & slopes. If a walker wants to go all the way through (1Hr.) to Peoples Bank area, we can have a van shuttle bring walkers back to trailhead. Walk is for as far as a walker wants to go. Pledges are not by miles.
Why: All funds stay in the walker’s area/neighborhood that they request. (Example: Carlisle, WDM, Ankeny, a DM Catholic church area, DM District or National.) Pledges may be turned in at walk, mailed in or made on-line. You may pre-register on-line. Registration & pledge Forms are available at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church at 2566 N. Who: We are an international Catholic Charity. Have been in DM area over 90 years and in Carlisle 22 years!
Our mission is to help those in need, while increasing our faith in following gospel teachings of Jesus Christ. We celebrate our patron saints’ 400 yr. anniversary this year & feast day Sept. 30!
Why: We need your help assisting people in financial crisis, aid in food, clothing and furniture/household items. Help us help others and to help them rise from poverty.
Des Moines District spends $9,000.00 a month in financial aid & gave 1.13 million dollars to over 10,000 people last year in education, food, clothes, & furniture needs?
Last year Carlisle conference gave in financial aid over $1,300 on 15 occasions, plus 60 Thanksgiving baskets and aided in Christmas baskets, toys, monthly food collection with minimum of $30 a month to local CCA food pantry. We also have provided a light monthly meal for 24 at the food pantry.
